How to make chalk texture with pencil

first, we have these pencil hand letters on sketch book. we need scan it in to computer with at least 400 dpi.

then, adjust the level of the image to lost all the highlight detail( i mean the white background) . then select the image from channel. then, lock the empty space and color it with brush. 

i have this blackboard image, directly pull from google.

A way to touch up digital painting

here is a painting i showed you guys last week. apparently need some dynamic color

 then i turn part of the painting into opposite color, and a awesome roof 

and here is a dynamic stroke. i made this fancy brush myself lol

and it was a little empty on the right up corner. so i have some hand lettering going on. the lettering looks not too good tho. i'm changing it

Coloring a line drawing

here is a line drawing i did for my project, it's all photoshop, all object placed on different layers.

then, use round brush to get some value going on. 

 then put the local color layer under the value drawing.

i'll introduce a more finished version and more technic to you in next blog~

A sculpture

maybe a little bit unbelievable, this sculpture is totally made out of trash. nothing is glue on, all the elements are fixed on the piece of wood by melt wax. i didn't expect i can make these bunch of trash looks this good. all i got were a candle, 2 pieces of wood, a piece of fabric and a few cards, i didn't even have a pair of scissors. 

how brush texture helps photoshop painting

here is a digital drawing i did years ago. it's very simple in process, but turn out really nice. i'm showing some of the process work.

first, i got some blocks going on. they are just fine color squares.

and very ez, after i put on a few strokes of brushes, it looks just like some kind of grass. after this step, i had some hardcore work on color to make sure all the colors works well together.

those little building, i draw them in 1px brush. now i figure i have some perspective issue with those tiny buildings, but doesn't matter, you can't see it. lol

oil pastel to digital

how you doing today? today im sharing a progress of my recently piece, here is the finished piece.

here is the original  oil pastel drawing of the poster. the color is kind mismanage, and it doesn't seem clean without some outline. don't worry, i'm a digital painter. scan it in to computer and life is all good.

 and then reedit the color and add some strong outline in photoshop. actually pretty ez, but took me like 12 hours just for digital editing. i turn the picture up side down and use it as background.

Photography for our Detroit

the three pictures im showing here is some photography i did for dear Detroit city.

im sharing some idea about composition too.

this is one of the unusual composition, but works so well. in this picture, the huge amount of information can catch your eyes really easily. and the contrast of the sky and land is a great touch.

 believe or not, symmetric composition on photography is always amazing. 

this one is a very typical golden ratio composition, and i work on bring the dark detail back a lot on this one. light the dark area is always a good move for landscape.

a good collage of mine and the progress of it

today, i'm showing this piece of collage photoshop picture i made. i made this piece out of a magazine, a book and some pieces of crap.

 first of all, i get this material, i scanned some pictures out of a anatomy book. i cut them out of the pages in photoshop and apply some adorable colors for every single one of them. i used a lot of mask layers to make uneven tones and visibility, for every thing.

and put the head i stole from a old game magazine at the center of it. the old man has a black background with it, i was trying to get rid of the back background. but then i realize i maybe able to  keep it within the picture.

then, pick a background, the yellow thing is for pop the face out

apply it to the collage i already did.

a collage without letters is dry, so i get some letters from the same magazine. edit the color and size individually.

it's about all done now, edit some contrast, overall colors, brightness, etc.

and, have some fun, apply another very different color and some text on the background.

a Tomo way to take photos

skip this paragraph if you are only looking for some solid stuff. a few years ago, i was a high school "photographer". i had a ton of professional cameras, lens, lights, tripods and filters. then i went to CCS photo department for my young photographer dream. i enjoyed take fancy photos with those fancy facilities. until i realize the true point of photograph. that's another story. anyway, then i sell all my facilities and start take photos with my iphone. i never feel so good about photographing before. 

this is  about my own experience about some of my iphone photos. it's not "tutorial" or "course". don't take it too serious or i'll show you my serious which i sure you don't want to see.

this one is a bowl of soup. don't be amazed by the quality of the picture. i took this picture with my iPhone5. i believe your phone camera is as good as this one. but you need figure out a few things to make it can work as you expect. first of all, a suitable light is very necessary for a good phone photo.

i sure i have a filter free version of this picture, but i couldn't find it. another tip, sunlight is very good, which means don't facing the sun and set everything in shadow.

 it's a cheap thing to say, but shadow and pets is always a pretty good theme. but you need abandon such cheap "instergramer" thing. if you want to be a true artist. but if you can handle such theme so properly, that's another word.

 good composition is everywhere. as long as you holding your phone in your hand and prepared to take photos. need some practice to find good composition. one more tip, pay close attention to ugly and normal things.

 the resolution of phone camera is far better than you think, if you treat it well.  

 when you taking photos with phone in dark, make sure you always focus the brightest part of the picture. which can give you a current brightness. it's relate to some technical stuff. ill explain if you ask. but i think you are not interested in.

phone is very suitable for small object. reasons. don't ask me why, it takes a essay to explain.

get use to not use filter, but improve your composition by practice. filter is such a stupid thing happen to photography. 

a sleeping roommate is such a good thing to photo hahahahah
